I participate in a book club with other editors and writers.

This month’s book was I Kissed Shara Wheeler, by Casey McQuiston. It’s billed as an LGBTQ YA Romance (also a mystery).

I had a lot of fun reading this book, processing my own complicated reactions, discussing it with a fellow editor, and distilling some lessons for myself and others as writers and editors.

Reading and discussing books is, in my view, one of the most invaluable activities that any writer or editor can engage in. It’s such an enriching form of engagement with self, others, and the craft of words.

Read the lessons I took from this book on writing and editing in my review on Goodreads

This month’s book also reminded me of a good friend and talented YA author whom I’ve lost touch with. It is thanks to her that I got into YA to begin with. Check out her books! Wherever you are, Kate Scott, thank you for introducing me to that world. I hope your journey finds you well.

And to all readers of mine, as always,

Ultreya,
